Day 1a of the WSOPE main event closed at the felt last night with 79 of the original 156 remaining hopeful in the tournament.  These guys will resume their play on Monday.  Now there were some set backs for some of the Big Gun poker players as day 1a of the WSOPE Main Event waved goodbye to Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Huck Seed and Dario Minieri.  Doyle Brunson is still high in the chip count and I would imagine he will perform well but I have my concerns at what his stamina levels are like at 76 years of age.  He plays a lot of poker at a very high level so I am guessing he has a well conditioned body for the antisocial hours poker is played in.

Day 1b of the WSOPE Main Event kicks off later today so we will report back later with the happenings from todays action.

Britains James Akenhead has a formidable stack and currently Ladbrokes are offering a great price for him in the WSOP final table at 16:1.  Poker-Shark have backed him at this price each way as he has promise to deliver something special in November if his short stack doesn't bust him early on.  You can see the full price list here

Darvin Moon (58,983,000 chips) 11/4
Eric Buchman (34,800,000 chips) 4/1
Phil Ivey (9,765,000 chips) 5/1
Steven Begleiter (29,885,000 chips) 11/2
Jeff Shulman (19,580,000 chips) 7/1
Joseph Cada (13,215,000 chips) 12/1
Kevin Schaffel (12,390,000 chips) 12/1
James Akenhead (6,800,000 chips) 16/1
Antoine Saout (9,500,000 chips) 18/1

I think Ivey is a player to watch out for here at 5:1 and Jeff Shulman at 7:1 with his healthier chip stack.
