Friday 12th December, Mince pies in the oven and one of Europes biggest Poker tournament finals to entertain. Poker-Shark HQ was a hive of activity once again as we settled into a crate of Belgium’s finest! Having seen Chase the Chair winner, Svein Nielsen secure a place in the final, excitement grew as we prayed for one of the online qualifiers do the business.   Kevin Allen from Romford, winner of the LEOCOP Masters Free Roll was also present. Living our own dreams through the Norwegian and Brit, the first of whom had beaten 119 other free roll winners for a place in the semis, we were prepared for a long evening.
The first hour or so was relatively slow paced as players felt each other out and this was understandable bearing in mind the mixed bunch playing before us.  Alas, for all our shouting and Lefe fuelled support, we watched on as first Svein fell, soon to be followed by Kevins departure. Still,  a cool $75k and £100k for 5th and 6th respectively were decent returns for free roll qualifiers and hope offered to us all.
The story of the evening (aside from one of us at the HQ slipping on an empty bottle and successfully face planting the TV) was that of Marty Smyth who went down early doors to Liam Floods pocket Kings . All thought that it wouldn’t be long before he would be joining his family and friends at the party but he played a very good game from then on. We sat there and watched as Flood himself went for $130,000 and then Ciaran O’Leary dropped out netting $175k in the process.
So with not much booze left we settled in to see the two Irish Gents, Eoghan and Marty battle it out for the seventh Ladbrokes Poker Million title. Ladbrokes poker had given its players some great promotions, and its hats off to them and great news for online poker that Kevin and Svein joined in the party. As many thought prior to the final, it was the World Series of Poker Bracelet winner, Marty Smyth that came out on top. It’s fair to say that both played their part and in this round of heads up we saw some excellent poker plays and decisions. Unfortunately for Eoghan, there was a $750k difference in the finishing position but massive congratulations to Marty who battled hard and came out on top as Ladbrokes Poker Million Champion!!
