The Aussie Millions is a favourite here at Poker-Shark. There is a great buzz around the event which now takes place every January with the drama unfolding in Australia’s second city, Melbourne. The event was first held in 1998 (Originally called the Australian Poker Championship) when Aussie, Alex Horowitz took victory and a $24,900 prize.
The popularity of this Tournament grew rapidly as we moved into the new millennium and the total prize pool went from $330,000 in 2002 to a massive $1,220,000 in 2003. It was in this year that the title was no longer kept by an Australian and it was Brit, Peter Costa that scooped the $394,870 prize.
In 2006, the Aussie Millions moved into its current 6 day format with the main event, (No Limit Texas Hodem) expecting to attract over 800 players in 2009. The buy in for the Aussie Millions is $10,500 and the event is considered the largest in the Southern Hemisphere!
