European Poker Tour
It was a Yorkshire man, John Duthie that developed the idea of the European Poker Tour (EPT) and the first one took place in 2004/05. The EPT season takes place over the winter months and involves several tournaments across Europe, all leading up to the European Poker Tour Grand Final!
Season 1 of the EPT had an average prize pool of around $500,000 for events outside the Grand final. The main event was eventually won by Dutchman Rob Hollink and he took the four day event to scoop the $845,190 first prize. The success of this first tour lead to significant increases to prize pools and the winner of Grand Final Four in April 2008 was Glen Chorny earning the Canadian a massive $3,196,354
Season 5 of the European Poker tour (sponsored by one of our partners – Pokerstars) will see a whole host of top poker pros frequenting the tables in 10 Cities. On this tour we will be shown around: Barcelona, London, Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, Deauville, Copenhagen, Dortmund, San Remo and of course the European Poker Tour grand Final in Monte Carlo. In Addition, to make life really hard on the pro players, chucked into this is the Pokerstars Caribbean adventure in the Bahamas!!
As you would expect, the EPT Grand Final is held at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort. We couldn’t think of a better location for what is Europe’s most valuable Texas Holdem event. Below we have listed the winners of the European Poker Tour Grand Finals to date and to get an idea of its growth you can see the prize money:
